Note: You must have Administrator privileges on your workstation
to install the Java Plug-in
The forms in the FIS Banner 7 application are Java-based and require
the installation of Sun Microsystems’ Java Plug-in on user workstations.
The Java Plug-in is compatible with Windows XP and Internet Explorer
6.0/7.0, and Firefox. Best results (including the ability to have multiple
simultaneous FIS sessions) will be achieved with Internet Explorer.
Many workstations already have the Java Plug-in installed, as it is
used by many other web-based applications. However, we recommend you
go through the install steps below; this will ensure that the version
that has been certified with FIS Banner 7 is installed. (There can be
multiple versions of the Java Plug-in installed on your workstation
with no problem.)
If you need assistance with downloading or installing the Java Plug-in,
please contact us at fis_probs@ucsc.edu

Because the FIS Banner 7 launch website (fis.ucsc.edu) is a secure
website, the Java Plug-in needs to be configured to use SSL (Secure
Socket Layer.) Please follow the steps below to ensure that your installation
of the Java Plug-in is configured properly.
At your Windows desktop, open the Control Panel from your Start
menu. (Note: depending on how Windows is configured on your
workstation, the Control Panel option may be on the Settings submenu
of your Start menu.).
Double click the Java™ Control Panel icon.
(Note: you may have to click on "Additional
Control Panel Options" to see the Java icon.)
Click the “Advanced” tab.
Open the “Security” options list by clicking on the
+ (plus) sign next to it.
Confirm that the "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"
box is checked. If not, click on the box to check it. Click OK to
exit the Java Control Panel
The Java Plug-in should now be properly installed on your workstation.
You can confirm that the Java Plug-in is installed and configured
correctly by following the instructions on the Logging
